Blueclaw is constantly finding new and innovative ways to monitor our social media efforts and nothing is worse than not being able to tell if all your hardwork (building blogs, profiles, engaging in conversation etc ) is paying off or not.
Personally, I’ve used and experimented with free online tools like Social Mention, Backtype and How Sociable?, all 3 are useful to a certain extent, Social Mention’s cleaner and less cluttered interface, accuracy and search return volume means I like it more than the other two.
These sites are great for very basic reporting though.
At the moment, I have been introduced to Radian6 (if you’ve never heard of Radian6 or need some getting used to with some terms used then I strongly suggest you give those 3 sites I mentioned earlier a try first). It’s definitely not free (and not cheap) but the abundance of useful information this neat thing can extract is endless that its almost overwhelming to the untrained eye.
All criticisms aside, Radian6 is a seriously powerful tool to measure the credibility and worth of the brand or client you’re working on. You can practically monitor brand presence and awareness in real-time, listen in on the conversations (River of News) that are taking place that you’d never have known.

Here are some Wordpress plugins that you should have if you’re interested in SEO.
(Not all are strictly directly SEO-related but the ones that aren’t can still help you gain a wider readership; gaining natural links and increasing your blog’s usefulness as an SEO tool!)

This is a question I often ask myself. As far as I can see, the answer seems to depend upon two factors – the emergence of real time search and how SEO progresses within the marketing mix.
At present it is impossible to see beyond Google when looking into the future. However, the emergence of a viable competitor does not seem as far off as it did a year ago. The merger of the Bing and Yahoo could make an impact – as long as they stop trying to play catch-up and start looking beyond existing search conventions.
One avenue that looks like it could impact upon Google’s quality-weighted algorithm is real-time search. At the moment, real-time search doesn’t offer much in terms of value for businesses. This is because of its current prominence in the social media sector. The failure of businesses to convert social media into revenue means that the connection between real-time search and revenue has not really been made.

Have you ever stumbled across a website that has ripped off the copy you poured hours of sweat and tears into writing? What can you do about it?
Some webmasters employ javascript alerts (‘Don’t even think about it!’) to put off sneaky thieves from copying anything on the page, and others don’t allow users to right-click at all. They are right to not take the issue lightly – duplicate content will not help your SEO efforts.
However, there are other tactics you can employ, which allow users to retain their freedom to click and copy what they like, whilst still giving you the ability to give content thieves a cheeky kick in the crotch.

Recently we have been focussing heavily upon the importance of content on your website. It is always useful to bear in mind that the search engines can only read text so even if your website has relevant pictures, logos and colour schemes, whilst they may be pleasing to the eye they will do nothing to aid your search engine rankings. Alt tags can show the search engines what keywords your pictures are relevant for, however, paragraphs of text are paramount for the success of your website on the search engines. We have already seen how to write content for your site in a recent post but here I shall focus on the importance of nice specific content.
