Google Doodle
1. Google’s first doodle was quite straight forward and no one probably expected them to become so popular and eventually be enjoyed and shared worldwide on certain anniversaries and events. This is the first Google Doodle:
First Tweet
2. Google’s first Tweet was hugely geeky as you would expect! It was sent on February 26th 2009 and it read as follows:
Google’s Logo
3. Google did not have its logo centred until 31st March 2001. The homepage used to have its logo slightly to the left and before that, as you can see from the burning man doodle, it used to have an exclamation mark as part of the logo, much like Yahoo.
BackRub
4. Google used to be called “BackRub”. Larry Page and Sergey Brin collaborated the search engine in 1995 using university servers. It eventually used too much bandwidth and they decided it needed a new name in 1997. Google came up as a play on the word “googol” which represents the numeral 1 followed by 100 zeros in mathematical terms.
Goats!
5. Google rents goats! Yep you read that right, honest. Their mountain view headquarters often need keeping under control so approximately 200 goats are hired to effectively “mow the lawn”. It costs pretty much the same amount and hey, I bet they are a lot cuter to watch :)
