Blueclaw are doing a sponsored sleep out for Simon on the Streets!

Simon on the Streets is a charity that offers street-based support for those who are homeless or those who are at risk of being homeless and those with behavioural and mental health issues and maybe struggling with addiction. The team work across Leeds, Huddersfield and Bradford to provide both practical support and emotional support for those who may need it.

Sponsored Sleep Out

This Thursday September 29th, Simon on the Streets is holding a sponsored sleep out. During this night those taking part will be given a homeless tour of the city and walk to a sleeping site to receive hot soup and a roll before being given a demonstration on how to build a bed. They will then bed down for night until 6:30am. Three key members of Blueclaw are taking part in this event and sleeping on the streets of Leeds to raise money.

Blueclaw Participants

David, the SEO Manager at Blueclaw is taking part and says,

“Simon on the Streets is a really worthwhile project, providing help and support to some of the most vulnerable, and forgotten, people in society. The outreach work that Simon on the Streets does is truly unique and reaches out to individuals who otherwise might never be reached by the traditional homelessness services and gives them a chance to change their lives for the better. I feel the least I can do is sleep rough for one night in Leeds if it helps out a truly worthwhile and unique charity. Though I was worried about the weather, it appears that this week is going to be a hot one so I think that we are going to have it easy in comparison to a typical late September night.”

Martin, an SEO consultant at Blueclaw, will be sleeping on the streets on Thursday and feels

“We often take for granted a roof over our heads every evening but we know that for some people this just isn’t the case. They haven’t got anywhere to go at night and as a result have to take to the streets to sleep. Simon on the Streets is a unique charity that offers a place for people to turn to when they feel there is no one - and nowhere - else to go. I wanted to do something to highlight the issue of homelessness - and sleeping rough for one night in Leeds is one way that I can help raise funds for this charity. “

Simon, a Link Builder at Blueclaw, says of the event:

“I’m doing Simon on the Streets because I feel homelessness is something that people don’t often pay attention too. A lot of people don’t realise the seriousness and the amount of people that are out on the streets each night trying to just survive. Many people tar homeless people with the same brush and assume it is all self-inflicted and I believe Simon the Streets helps raise awareness and I’m more than happy to help them do this. For my night on the streets I’m mainly worried about the weather and keeping warm. Leeds isn’t exactly known for its tropical climates and I think it’s going to be a real toil to actually get any sleep at all!”
