Where would we be in SEO without tools!? I thought I would compile a list of SEO tools that I myself use regularly. They are all free and simple to use. I know what your thinking why list 14…? Well for no reason really other than being different really…so here goes:

Where would we be without this tool!? Useful for finding out which keywords are best to optimise for and how competitive certain keyword phrases are.

A really quick tool for checking a sites back-links. Useful for gauging the competitiveness of a certain industry and useful for analysing your own sites back links.

A bit more advanced than Yahoo Site Explorer this tool takes a bit longer to use but gives you a lot more information including the page ranks of the sites back-linking to you/your competitors and the link quality.

Great tool for performing some analysis on a domian. It can tell you where it is hosted and much more.

This is a quick domain age tool that lets you check multiple domains in order to find out their domain age. This is very useful when trying to determine competitiveness of your industry.

Great tool for checking your sites links and determining if any of them are broken. it is good to use a tool such as this in the early stages of SEO and also throughout.

This tool allows you to see how many of your sites pages have been indexed by the search engines.

A very useful tool when finding out the keyword density of your site for given keywords. Well worth using when trying to write keyword rich copy for your site and avoiding being spammy.

Clever tool that allows you to check the content of your site against a competitor to see how similar they are. Very useful for avoiding duplicate content issues.

This is a useful tool for seeing how a search engine spider will read your site. After doing a full page optimisation it is always worth running it through a tool like this to see how much of the information will be picked up.

One of THE most useful tools. Sign your site up to it and add a sitemap and increase the chances of Google indexing your site.

A brilliant site for generating XML sitemaps for your site. if you have a very complex site with thousands of pages you will need to buy the software for generating one however 500 pages and under and you’re laughing…don’t forget to submit it to Webmaster Tools however…

The ultimate tool! Gives you all the information you could almost possibly need for your site in terms of traffic sources and visitor behviour. Sign up and install it on your site if you haven’t already!

So your SEO campaign is underway and you now want to see the fruits of your labour well this is a quick and easy tool for checking your rankings in Google.
